Homeowners' pick for heating and cooling across the Arkansas Ozarks and Little Red River country

AC Compressor Repair

We repair and replace failed AC compressors on residential air conditioners and heat pumps across Arkansas, Missouri, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Tennessee. You need this work when the outdoor unit hums but the fan won't turn, the breaker trips every time cooling kicks on, or the air from your vents is barely cool while the compressor sits silent. Shut the system off at the thermostat so it stops trying to start, then call us. Running a locked compressor over and over does more damage than the original fault. We'll set a visit time that fits our route to your area.

What Compressor Repair Actually Involves

The compressor is the pump that moves refrigerant through the system, and it lives in the outdoor unit. Most calls that sound like a bad compressor turn out to be something feeding it: a failed start capacitor, a burned contactor, a bad relay or low voltage from the disconnect. We test those first because they are common and they are fixable in one visit. If the compressor windings themselves are shorted or the motor is mechanically locked, we move to replacement of the compressor or the whole outdoor section.

What We Check On The Call

We start with the easy stuff you can confirm too: thermostat settings, a tripped breaker, a clogged filter and debris packed against the outdoor coil. Then we take readings, including voltage at the contactor, capacitor values, winding resistance and amp draw on start. We check refrigerant pressures on both sides and look for signs of overheating, oil staining or acid in the line set. On older heat pumps we also check the reversing valve and defrost control, since those can mimic compressor trouble.{

How We Decide Repair Or Replacement

We weigh three things: the age of the outdoor unit, what refrigerant it uses and whether the failure burned the oil. A compressor swap on a newer system with clean lines is straightforward work. On a unit well past a decade, running an older refrigerant that is getting hard to source, putting a new compressor into a tired coil and fan assembly rarely pays off. We tell you what we found, what each path costs you in downtime, and let you make the call.

AC Compressor Repair — quick answers

Can a compressor be repaired, or does it always get replaced?

The compressor itself is a sealed pump, so internal failures mean replacement. But many compressor complaints trace to a capacitor, contactor or wiring fault outside the compressor, and those we repair on site.

Why does my breaker trip when the AC starts?

Often a shorted compressor or a failed start component pulling high amps. Reset it once. If it trips again, leave it off and call us. Repeated resets can damage the compressor and the breaker.

My outdoor unit hums but the fan doesn't spin. Is that the compressor?

Usually not. That hum with no fan movement most often points to a failed capacitor or fan motor. We test both before touching the compressor, since the cheaper fix is far more common.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Tell us the symptom

Call or fill in the quote form with what the system is doing. Warm air, no air, short cycling, a smell, a breaker that keeps tripping. That detail helps us load the right parts before we roll.

  2. Step 2

    We schedule around travel

Hill-country routes take time, so we give you a realistic window instead of a guess. If you are on a long county road, we tell you that up front and keep you posted if the day shifts.

  3. Step 3

    Diagnose, then explain

We test the system, find the actual fault and walk you through what failed and what the repair involves. You decide before we start. If a part has to be ordered, we say when it lands.

Why homeowners call us

  • Older systems are normal herePlenty of homes on our routes run a heat pump from two decades back, a propane furnace and a wood stove for the cold snaps. We repair what you have rather than pushing you toward replacement on the first visit.
  • Heating and cooling bothSame crew handles air conditioning repair in summer and heating repair in winter. That means we know your system's history when the season flips, and we are not learning your ductwork from scratch in January.
  • We say what we do not knowIf a fault is intermittent, we tell you that instead of replacing parts on a hunch. Sometimes the honest answer is a monitoring period or a second visit when the weather brings the problem back.
  • Regional coverage, local paceWe cover Arkansas, Missouri, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Tennessee. Travel time is part of every job we quote, so you get a window that accounts for the drive rather than a promise that falls apart.
  • All major brands, gas & electricEvery major HVAC brand, gas and electric, handled by an independent crew.
  • Straight answersNot worth fixing? We say that out loud, and often it saves you the visit fee.
